Samuel Claude Sessions papers, 1901 July 6-1909.

Sailor's diary, 6 July 1901-1904, with entries describing cruises in the Caribbean; life aboard ship; drills with guns, life preservers, etc.; visits to various ports of call; military discipline, and races with other ships; includes several photographs, souvenirs, ephemera, and printed materials. Other topics include dedication ceremonies, May 1902, for the Naval Y.M.C.A. in New York, and ceremonies, July 1902, ceding Guantanomo Bay naval station from Cuba to the United States; includes discussion of military discipline for such infractions as smuggling alcohol onboard or tardy return from shore leave. Places discussed include Port Royal, S.C.; New York, N.Y.; and Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, and other ports in the Caribbean. Also available on microfilm (R 336), which documents several additional years in Sessions' life: "6 July 1901-1909 and July 1904."
